About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Project Engineer to join our team at Network Rail. As a Senior Project Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of engineering projects across various disciplines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement Network Rail systems and procedures to deliver high-quality and safe engineering projects.
  • Monitor the competence of project engineers and provide guidance and direction as needed.
  • Apply engineering controls and procedures to ensure compliance with Railway Group and Network Rail Company standards.
  • Conduct risk assessments and HAZOP analyses to identify potential hazards and mitigate risks.
  • Monitor projects for compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Advise project and programme management on construction activities, testing, and commissioning.
  • Monitor the competency of contractors' design, construction, and specialist personnel.
  • Undertake accident investigations and identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Undertake project categorisation to determine the level of engineering assurance required.
Requirements
  • Significant experience in engineering disciplines, ideally with involvement in construction and design projects.
  • Technical qualifications to at least HNC level or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution (ICE, IMechE, IET).
  • Experience of contracting and knowledge of structuring safety cases.
  • Knowledge of safety management and quality assurance.
  • Understanding of the arrangements required for the independent assessment of works.
  • Accident investigation experience.
  • Demonstrable skills in initiating and building positive working relationships with customers, their team, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable experience of creating opportunities for development for themselves and others/their team.
  • Demonstrable experience of challenging self and others to improve services and approaches.
  • Demonstrable experience of supporting the physical and mental well-being and safety of themselves and colleagues and of challenging business and safety-related risks.
  • Demonstrable ability to work proactively through complex issues.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Six Sigma Yellow Belt.
  • Chartered status or equivalent in the particular discipline.
  • Appreciation of environmental issues in engineering works.
