Deputy Wigs & Makeup Manager

Northern Ballet seeks a skilled Deputy Wigs & Makeup Manager to join the Wigs Department.

This key role will help the Wigs and Makeup Manager in all aspects of wigs, hair, makeup, and hair accessories for show creation.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Assisting the Wigs and Makeup Manager in their absence or when needed
  • Ensuring high-quality wig dressing, hairstyling, and makeup application for performances
  • Liaising with the Wigs and Makeup Manager to maintain the highest standards of work
  • Organizing Get-Ins and Get-Outs for touring weeks and communicating with relevant departments
  • Supporting dancers with wig and makeup applications
  • Cleaning and maintaining wigs and hairpieces for performances
  • Attending rehearsals, technical, dress, and costume understudy rehearsals as needed
  • Assisting with wig fittings
  • Reporting maintenance needs for wigs and equipment
  • Maintaining a tidy and secure work environment
  • Providing assistance on photo calls, digital filming, and company events
  • Contributing to the creation of new hairpieces and accessories

Essential Attributes:

  • Relevant wigs training or qualification
  • Demonstrable experience in the industry, including live performance and touring
  • Confident in wig dressing and application
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • Ability to manage a busy workload efficiently
  • Flexible approach to working hours and travel
  • Commitment to Health and Safety

Desirable Attributes:

  • Knowledge of wig construction and maintenance
  • Barbering and Hairdressing skills or training
  • Experience working with diverse hair types and textures
  • Good makeup knowledge and application skills
  • Experience with bald cap application and SFX pieces
  • Some sewing skills for accessory construction
