Job Summary

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled and versatile Mechanical Fitter/Plumber/Maintenance Engineer to join our busy Estates Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing a wide range of multi-skilled tasks, including mechanical work, plumbing, and maintenance of various engineering plant and equipment.

Main Responsibilities

  • Carry out mechanical work, including installation, maintenance, and repair of various equipment and plant.
  • Work on hot and cold-water systems, heating systems, and control of water hygiene.
  • Perform fault finding and troubleshooting on a wide range of engineering plant and equipment.
  • Act as a Competent Person (CP) for relevant disciplines Health Technical Memorandum (HTM's) as designated.
  • Plan and manage day-to-day work, coordinating with contractors and other staff members to arrange for work to be carried out.
  • Design, manufacture, assemble, and install new work.
  • Carry out tasks effectively and efficiently to a high standard and instruct others on aspects of the trade.
  • Work with and assist other trades.
  • Participate in the operation of engineering planned maintenance systems.
  • Join the On-Call system, responding to out-of-hours emergency calls from the On-Call Engineer to take appropriate action to make safe or repair, communicating and advising those affected, staff, patients, and visitors, etc.
  • Carry a Trust communication device as and when operational needs require, responding to urgent requests from your Line Manager during your working shift.
  • Respond to fire calls and assist as directed on site.
