About the Role
Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Senior Microbiologist to join our Research and Development team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in microbiology, particularly in molecular diagnostics and sequencing technologies.

Job Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Validating and evaluating respiratory metagenomics using next-generation sequencing technology
  • Delivery of clinical metagenomic services
  • Analysis and interpretation of quality controls/results and communication to the wider team
  • Ensuring all data and development activity is consistent with current governance regulations and data protection legislation

Required Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A relevant professional qualification (e.g., PhD in microbiology/virology or related discipline)
  • Full registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Postdoctoral experience in clinical microbiology laboratory
  • Familiarity with diverse molecular diagnostic platforms
  • Molecular assay development and validation experience
  • Experience working in Category 3 laboratories
  • Experience working within antimicrobial/viral resistance field
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Benefits
Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers a competitive salary of £52,000 - £70,000 per annum, depending on experience.
