About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join our team at Galliford Try. As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and implementing cost-effective control solutions for projects that meet customer needs while meeting all relevant legislation and staying within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement detailed designs, specifications, and implementation plans for control solutions.
  • Support the Sales Department in developing robust, cost-effective controls solutions.
  • Proactively identify alternative materials and scope change opportunities while meeting performance, quality, and compliance with client and statutory standards.
  • Attend design reviews and submit designs for approval.
  • Be responsible for successful site commissioning and SAT testing of control solutions.
  • Liaise with all interested departments and attend handover meetings as necessary.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with other departments to establish positive feedback on all contracts.
  • Assist with internal process development and identify and remove waste/non-value-added activities.
  • Support the Engineering Team during holidays and sickness.

About You:

  • Relevant experience in electrical design (hardware) relating to MCC, Switchgear, Control Panel, and LV Distribution/Electrical Installations.
  • Competence in working in a Systems Integration Environment and closely working with Software Engineers to develop Functional Design specifications.
  • Specification, design, installation, and commissioning of equipment with internal and/or external resources.
  • Qualified to the current edition of BS wiring regulations.
  • Experience in producing complex electrical schematics, general arrangement drawings, and BOM.
  • Experience in using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Experience working as part of a team and interfacing directly with customers.
  • Excellent IT skills, including Word Processing, Spreadsheets, and Databases.
  • Technical Report writing ability.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience within the Water & Wastewater Sector.
  • Experience in Industrial Automation.
  • Knowledge of Profibus, Profinet, and Ethernet Topologies.
  • Demonstrable track record of managing contracts, client and/or contractor disputes, contractors, project teams, consultants, and other external resources.
  • Demonstrable track record in delivering cost-effective control solutions in industries such as Utility, Food, FMCG, Automotive, and Materials Handling.

Essential Attainments:

  • HNC/ONC in Electrical/Systems/Software engineering plus relevant experience in electrical installation or maintenance.
  • Degree qualification in Electrical Systems Engineering Discipline plus postgraduate experience in Utility industries or Food, FMCG, Automotive, and Materials Handling.
