Aberdeen, Aberdeen City, United Kingdom Caritas Recruitment Full time
Job Title: Child Protection Specialist

About the Role:
Caritas Futures is proud to be supporting the NSPCC, a leading children's charity, with the recruitment of several ChildLine Universal Practitioners to join their teams. This is a permanent vacancy offering flexible working hours, including 17.5 hours, 28 hours, and full-time.

Salary and Benefits:
The salary for this role is £34,582 - £38,425, plus a 7% shift allowance and a £200 home working allowance for those opting for hybrid working. As a ChildLine Practitioner, you will empower the public to protect children by providing emotional support, practical guidance, and help to anyone who thinks a child may be at risk of abuse.

About the Team:
At the UK-wide Helpline, the priority is to empower the public to protect children and young people. With empathy, sensitivity, and common sense, you will provide emotional support, practical guidance, and help to anyone who thinks a child may be at risk of abuse. Working as an advisor to adults across the UK, you will encourage and empower them to look out for the children around them - to act and give children a voice when they are unable to ask for help themselves.

Key Responsibilities:
You will be providing advice and assistance to the public via telephone, email, text, and through social media. You will take ownership of each contact you make, and you will be responsible for assessing the risk, liaising with NSPCC's external child protection partners (Children's Services, Police) to ensure prompt and effective action is taken to minimise the risk to any child.

Requirements:
Experience with safeguarding children, ideally in domestic violence/domestic abuse, is desirable. You will need substantial and extensive experience in safeguarding children and young people, as well as up-to-date knowledge of child protection legislation and practical experience of child protection and welfare issues. An understanding of the needs of children and their psychosocial development is essential. Good IT skills are also required.

About the Organisation:
This is a fast-paced national helpline with demanding targets, where self-discipline and the ability to work quickly are essential to effectively deliver a child-focused service. As an organisation, the NSPCC is committed to creating and fostering a culture that promotes safeguarding and the welfare of all children and adults at risk. NSPCC safer recruitment practices support this by ensuring that there is a consistent and thorough process of obtaining, collating, analysing, and evaluating information from and about candidates to ensure that all persons appointed are suitable to work with our children and adults.
