Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Healthcare Assistant to join our nursing team on Hazelwood ward at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your career in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality, personalized care to patients in accordance with local and national standards.
  • Take samples from patients for testing or dispatching, including urine, sputum, faeces, MRSA swabs, blood sugars, and venous blood sampling.
  • Assist patients with meeting their nutritional needs and undertake clinical duties relevant to the clinical area.
  • Maintain patient safety and adhere to health, safety, and security legislation, policies, and guidelines.
  • Contribute to maintaining high standards of care to improve patient experience and outcomes.
  • Promote equality in care and practice by recognizing, respecting, and meeting the needs and choices of individuals.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and productive care environment, compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Education

  • GCSE Maths and English grade C or above / Grade 4-9 OR Functional/Key skills level 2 numeracy and Functional/Key Skills level 2 literacy.
  • BNCS or NVQ / Internal Level 2 training programme (to include work-based assessments).
  • Must be willing to undertake and complete Trust internal Level 3 training programme course as soon as possible.

Desirable Criteria

  • Level 3 QCF diploma (Qualification Credit Framework) in healthcare / NVQ level 3 (to include work-based assessments).

Knowledge and Experience

  • Previous experience of working in an acute healthcare or related setting.
  • Understanding of health and safety issues within healthcare.
  • Understanding of the concept and application of confidentiality.
  • Understanding of the role of a senior HCA.
