Neurosurgery Registrar

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Trust Grade doctor to join our neurosurgical department as a Registrar. This is an exciting opportunity to gain excellent experience in neurosurgery and work closely with consultants, other junior doctors, and multi-disciplinary teams.
Main Responsibilities:- Support various aspects of the busy neurosurgical service, including cover of the neurosurgical wards, clinics, pre-admissions, and theatres.
- Provide inpatient and outpatient services under consultant supervision.
- Contribute to the emergency out-of-hours rota.
- Supervise daily ward rounds and conduct patient management in line with plans agreed with the Consultants.
- Support and teach junior colleagues effectively.
- Participate in M&M and MDT meetings.
- Contribute to Quality & Improvement Projects within the department.
- Attend departmental meetings.
- MBBS or equivalent.
- Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice in the UK.
- Full MRCS or equivalent.
- ATLS or equivalent.
- Postgraduate Qualifications.
- Good and wide-ranging recent experience of Neurosurgery in an acute inpatient setting in a large acute hospital.
- Evidence of completion of key competencies equivalent to at least junior registrar level (logbook).
- Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement.
- Potential to develop excellent diagnostic skills.
- Experience of working out of hours with limited support.
- Experience of supervising junior colleagues.
- Experience leading a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English.
- Able to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, their families, and other health professionals.
- Able to work within a team.
- Evidence of participation in clinical audit/quality improvement.
- Able to teach and support junior staff effectively.
- Original research publications.
- Presentations at National Meetings.
- Good presentational skills.
- Experience and enthusiasm for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
- Awareness of limitations and when to escalate concerns.
- Capacity to monitor acute situations that may change rapidly.
- Basic computer skills.
- Adaptable and responsive to change.
- Able to prioritise and manage time effectively.
- Able to make an initial management plan for an unwell patient.
- Able to work flexibly in a changing health service.
- Able to work the full range of shifts (days, nights, lates, on-calls).
