MWH Treatment seeks a talented Design Manager to join our Anglian water region team working on the Cambridge relocation project. As a key member of our Engineering team, you will oversee the delivery of the final optioneering stage and detailed design for construction, ensuring technical excellence and innovation in engineering solutions.


Located in the Peterborough & Cambridge area, this role presents an opportunity to lead a large team in a visible and supporting fashion, while providing technical expertise and sound advice to stakeholders. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure all technical outputs meet project requirements within agreed timescales, with a focus on maintaining high-quality results and driving project efficiency.


The Cambridge relocation project involves the design and build of a modern, low-carbon waste water treatment plant to provide vital services for the community and environment. As a member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering this project, working closely with partners and stakeholders to drive collaboration and achieve project objectives.


Key responsibilities in this role include:



  • Managing the final optioneering stage and detailed design for construction, ensuring technical excellence and innovation in engineering solutions.
  • Overseeing the delivery of design in accordance with the design management plan and design brief, including client requirements, cost, programme, best practice design standards, design responsibilities, BIM strategy, and contract agreement.
  • Monitoring and reporting on design progress on a weekly and monthly basis, taking action to maintain design delivery to time, cost, drive efficiencies, quality, and safety requirements.
  • Collaborating closely with partners, including engineers, designers, contractors, and stakeholders, to drive collaboration and achieve project objectives.
  • Leading a team of professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Identifying and mitigating technical risks, implementing effective strategies to overcome challenges.
  • Ensuring the scope of solution is clearly defined and agreed by all parties, design complies with client brief, contract, current legislation, Development Consent Order, building regulations, CDM, and relevant technical requirements.
  • Developing new ways of working to reduce carbon, increase biodiversity, address climate change, and embrace innovations and new digital technologies.
  • Overseeing technical deliverables, ensuring they are produced within required time-scales, technical costs are properly managed, and technical change is tightly controlled.
  • Ensuring all engineering outputs meet industry-leading standards and client expectations.
  • Upholding Anglian Water's commitment to sustainability, quality, and excellence in all project activities.
