About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic volunteer to support people affected by dementia in our Singing for the Brain sessions.

Singing for the Brain is a unique group activity that offers people with dementia an opportunity to engage in music therapy and socialise with others. As a Support Volunteer, you will play a vital role in creating a welcoming environment and encouraging participants to participate in the singing session.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to build meaningful relationships, and possess a caring attitude. Experience of working with people with dementia is not essential, but a willingness to learn and adapt is crucial.

Working closely with our session facilitator, you will provide emotional support and encouragement to participants, helping them to feel at ease and engaged throughout the session.

The session takes place on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm, at a community centre in Pontefract, West Yorkshire. We would like volunteers to commit to three hours per month, including setup and clearing away.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support people with dementia in our Singing for the Brain sessions
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement to participants

Estimated Salary: £12-15 per hour
