As the Head of Software, you will lead a large central software engineering team, responsible for the dissemination of high-quality software engineering processes across the organisation. Your role will also involve the implementation and maintenance of tools and applications across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership for the software engineering team.
  • Work with stakeholders at all levels to anticipate needs, provide strategic advice, and deliver effective software programmes.
  • Lead and manage the software team, offering development plans, and motivating team members.
  • Transform the organisation's activities through modern software, data, and simulation solutions.
  • Work across the organisation to highlight and provide guidance on best practices for software development.
Requirements
  • Proficient in coding languages such as C++, Python, Fortran, and Java.
  • Holds a PhD or M.Sc. in STEM, comfortable managing academics and researchers.
  • Significant people management experience in varied teams and the ability to define and establish new abilities and develop others as a leader.
  • Substantial experience in software engineering in an R&D environment, including responsibility for managing software team(s).
  • Extensive experience with software tools, including version control, editors, DevOps, and planning.
  • Excellent understanding of modern software engineering practices.
  • Broad familiarity with a wide range of software and data technologies and approaches.
  • Ability to establish and work in an Agile/SCRUM environment.
  • Ability to communicate, build trust, and influence at all levels.
