Taxation Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Policy Adviser to join our team at HM Treasury, contributing to the development of policy on taxation of oil and gas. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to work at the heart of HM Treasury's fiscal, economic, and environmental objectives.

The Energy and Transport Tax team at HM Treasury is responsible for a broad range of live policy areas that attract significant ministerial attention. Our Environment and Resource Taxation branch works on the fiscal regime for North Sea oil and gas, a tax on plastic packaging, landfill tax, and aggregates levy. This branch also coordinates the department's approach to using tax levers to deliver the government's net zero objectives.

The successful candidate will have core policy responsibilities related to the oil and gas fiscal regime, as well as advising Ministers on oil and gas tax policy and engaging with parliamentary, media, and external stakeholders. They will also be responsible for building and maintaining positive working relationships with colleagues and collaborators, possessing a strong understanding of tax and spending issues.

• Manage the North Sea oil and gas tax regime
• Oversee the Treasury's interests in oil and gas decommissioning, including the Decommissioning Relief Deed (DRD) programme
• Advise Ministers on oil and gas tax policy and engage with parliamentary, media, and external stakeholders
• Build and maintain an extensive network of external partners
• Collaborate across government departments
• Manage communication and briefing products related to oil and gas tax

The salary for this position is approximately £40,000-£60,000 per annum, depending on experience.
