The opportunity
At Unity, we are committed to delivering high-quality products that empower creators to bring their visions to life. Ensuring the integrity and efficiency of our development process is paramount.
The Guardian Team plays a vital role in maintaining the velocity of testing and landing Pull Request changes, ensuring that our release cadence stays on track. We understand that shipping a quality product is crucial, and CI and test automation are essential components in achieving this goal. As a member of the Guardian Team, you will be at the forefront of supporting developers in landing their code quickly and efficiently, while maintaining the highest standards of quality.
Our team is entrusted with the responsibility of being the first level of support when it comes to keeping releases on time. We proactively monitor and maintain the continuous Merge Queue Verification (QV) operation for all release branches. When issues arise, we rapidly identify, address, or appropriately delegate their resolution, ensuring that blocking issues are swiftly resolved.
We also take a proactive approach to improving the efficiency and stability of our CI pipelines. By targeting and refining the slowest and most unstable segments, we continuously enhance the overall quality of our development process. Our team has the authority to make necessary adjustments to jobs and their execution within the CI pipelines, always prioritizing stability and efficiency.
As a member of the Guardian Team, you will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with development teams, gathering feedback, sharing insights, and identifying potential areas for improvement. Your expertise in CI/CD principles, automation, and troubleshooting will be invaluable in defining and enforcing acceptance criteria for new jobs, ensuring they meet the required standards for performance and reliability.
If you are passionate about ensuring the smooth operation of CI pipelines, have a strong desire to contribute to the success of our development process, and are committed to delivering high-quality products, we invite you to join the Guardian Team. Together, we will play a crucial role in supporting the success of all current and future Unity releases, while empowering creators to bring their visions to life.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Monitor and maintain the continuous Merge Quality Verification (QV) operation for all Unity release branches.
- Rapidly identify, address, or appropriately delegate the resolution of any blocking issues in the CI pipelines.
- Proactively target and refine the slowest and most unstable segments of the CI pipelines to increase their overall quality over time.
- Exercise broad authority to maintain the health of the CI environment, including reverting Pull Requests, halting QV, and modifying or removing unstable tests and jobs as necessary.
- Define and enforce acceptance criteria for new jobs, ensuring they meet the required standards for performance and reliability before inclusion in the pipelines.
**Requirements:**
- Strong experience and understanding of Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) principles, tools (such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar) and best practices.
- Proficiency in C#.
- Knowledge of software development processes and version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Experience with performance optimization and troubleshooting in a CI/CD environment.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to quickly diagnose and resolve issues.
**Nice to Have:**
- Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation and pipeline management.
- Experience with writing workflows with GitHub Actions.
- Familiarity with Unity and NUnit.
