About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Specialty Doctor in Old Age Psychiatry at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide medical input to the day-to-day functioning of the ward, including the admission and treatment of patients.
  • Conduct psychiatric reviews of service users, supporting a multidisciplinary approach.
  • Regularly participate and contribute to team handovers, ward rounds, and multidisciplinary Care Programme Approach (CPA) reviews.
  • Work effectively to facilitate timely discharge of patients from hospital.
  • Ensure effective and timely documentation, including admission and discharge summaries, Mental Health Act reports, progress notes, and communicating clinical decision-making and management plans to relevant parties.
  • Liaise with partner agencies, including acute hospitals, social services, primary care, and private and voluntary agencies to ensure effective joint working in the provision of care to service users, for example, in discharge planning.
Person Specification
  • Full GMC registration and license to practice with the General Medical Council.
  • MBBS or equivalent formal qualification.
  • MRCPsych or equivalent.
  • Approval under section 12 of the Mental Health Act 1983.
  • Completed minimum of 4 years full-time postgraduate training (or equivalent) of which 2 will be in a specialty training program in psychiatry or as a fixed-term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty.
  • Experience engaging in and delivering clinical supervision and training.
  • Proven experience of good working relationships within a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience of teaching and speaking to wider stakeholder groups.
  • Experience in research and service evaluation work.
  • Experience in old age psychiatry.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of old age psychiatry, community mental health service delivery models, and research issues.
  • Knowledge of policy and legislation relating to mental health and social care services.
  • Decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel effectively and quickly across large geographical areas, including rural areas.
