As a Maintenance Operative at Downing, you will be responsible for delivering a pro-active and responsive repair and maintenance service to our customers.

You will undertake regular building patrols to identify any maintenance requirements or health and safety risks and record, log, and monitor any maintenance issues that may arise.

We require the successful candidate to have a thorough understanding of Health & Safety legislation and the impact of the works being undertaken.

We offer a competitive salary of £26,000 - £31,000 per annum, plus benefits including 25 days holiday, paid overtime, pension scheme, life assurance cover, and employee assistance scheme.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking planned maintenance including fire alarm testing, emergency lighting testing, and health & safety checks
  • Recording, logging, and monitoring any maintenance issues that may arise
  • Liaising with students and onsite contractors to ensure completion of work

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Relevant qualification in plumbing, joinery, or electrical systems (desired)
  • Prior experience of domestic electrical/plumbing/general maintenance
  • Intermediate level skills in business operating systems including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Demonstrable experience of effective communication both orally and in writing

Hours of work:

  • Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm or 9am to 6pm
  • Rota'd Saturday shifts
