About the Role

This fully-funded PhD research project is part of a Marie Skłodowska Curie Action Doctoral Network, QuiVal, a programme funded by the European Union to develop a fundamentally new approach to real estate valuation. The project aims to transition the sector towards a more sustainable, low-carbon, and circular future through a transdisciplinary doctoral training programme across 8 universities and 14 industry partners.

The PhD candidate will spend most of the funded three years at University College London, but will also be funded for two periods on secondment to QuiVal partners, including industry partner Southern Housing and university partner Department of Architecture, University of Naples Federico II in Italy. The candidate will have opportunities to share knowledge and foster discussions with other 12 doctoral candidates through five workshops and three summer schools.

The project will provide innovative ways to assess asset value, focusing on illiquid assets such as real estate and housing, and take into account the role real estate plays for market players, the economy, and society. The PhD candidate will produce an accessible report for real estate professionals, as well as a dissertation and several academic papers.

The post holder will conduct research in the field of economics and finance applied to real estate markets. This is a fixed-term contract for 36 months.

About You

We are looking for a PhD candidate with a background in finance, economics, statistics, data science, real estate economics, real estate finance, architecture, engineering, spatial planning, or urban and regional economics. The ideal candidate will have strong skills in econometric techniques and programming, proficiency in English, and a desire to develop a career in academia and publish in top-tier journals.

The candidate should have good communicative and entrepreneurial skills, an independent attitude, and the ability to work in a research team. They should also be able to lead in research and involve the research team and industrial partners in knowledge co-creation and sharing activities.
