Job Title: HSE Compliance Specialist

About the Role:

The Oval Partnership is seeking an experienced HSE Compliance Specialist to join our team. This role will be responsible for ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, protecting the workforce, and improving overall safety performance across the site.

Duties:

  • Act as a role model and ambassador towards company values.
  • Evaluate and communicate priorities.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the H&S plan.
  • Report performance to senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Audit high-consequence areas, such as isolation & lock off, legionella controls, permit implementation, etc.
  • Coach managers and team leaders to manage risks in their areas of responsibility.
  • Keep up with new technology and promote new practices that improve performance over time.
  • Work closely with engineering and facilities managers to ensure they discharge their responsibilities and maintain the right checks and balances.
  • Liaise with external enforcement agencies when necessary, in a productive and respectful manner.
  • Develop themselves and ensure their continual professional development (CPD) is up to date.
  • Work with HR teams to ensure a competency framework is implemented to ensure those at all levels understand their responsibilities and accountabilities.
  • Ensure the site discharges its H&S legal requirements and develops a prioritized plan to resolve any gaps identified.
  • Inspect and audit standards, especially in high-consequence areas, and report findings to senior management.
  • Advise and support projects and new machinery purchases to ensure compliance with legal requirements and get it 'right first time.'
  • Facilitate accident reduction plans at site and departmental level.
  • Help facilitate an effective H&S committee that consults with all members of the workforce.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent (Business for H&S course is an equivalent. Working towards a NEBOSH Diploma would be an advantage.)
  • Technical Member of IOSH preferable
  • 2-5 years safety experience preferably in food manufacturing
  • Experience implementing safety management systems and investigating and learning from incidents
  • Understanding of how a H&S culture is developed and implemented and ability to put in place strategies to engage others in our H&S journey
  • Passionate about pursuing a career in health & safety and willing to continue to learn

Salary: £50,000 - £65,000 per annum, depending on experience
