Chair Role Overview

The Chair is a key leadership position at England Golf, responsible for guiding the organisation's strategic direction and ensuring its governance and operations are of the highest standard.

The Chair will provide leadership and direction to the Board and General Meetings, working closely with the Chief Executive to achieve England Golf's objectives. This includes ensuring the organisation runs to the highest standards of corporate governance and best practice, and in an open, equitable and transparent way, always in the interests of its members and the game as a whole.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and direction for the Board and General Meetings
  • Ensure the organisation's governance and operations are of the highest standard
  • Guide and assist the Board and Chief Executive in developing and implementing England Golf's strategic plan, business plan, financial plan, and annual plans
  • Challenge and support the Chief Executive in relation to delegated powers and duties, creation of organisational strategy and plans, and their execution
  • Represent and promote the best interests of England Golf and the game to the widest audience
Requirements
  • Expected time commitment of 20 days per year
  • Directors' fee of £18,000 per annum, plus expenses for attending meetings and other reasonable out-of-pocket expenses
  • Declaration of good character required prior to appointment
  • Requirement to have 30% of each gender on the Board
