About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Design Manager from a Mechanical background to join our team on various projects in the rail sector based out of our Birmingham office.

As an Assistant Design Manager, you will ensure that all design information is thoroughly reviewed and delivered in line with our design management procedures for completeness and compliance with contractual obligations. This includes factors such as programme, buildability, safety, maintenance, and technical suitability.

You will oversee the production, control, and distribution of design information at different project stages and ensure regular progress reporting of the design is in place.

  • Main Responsibilities:
  • Supporting consultant teams to maximise their effectiveness and value optimisation in providing integrated design solutions that meet client business needs (strategies and budgets).
  • Reviewing design delivery to enhance quality of solutions and efficiency of design, procurement, manufacturing, assembly, commissioning, and handover of total engineering excellent solutions for clients.
  • Supporting consultants in adopting our design processes, delivering with rigour and quality project management processes, and ensuring effective collaboration throughout the supply chain (using appropriate tools including BIM/Digital Engineering).
  • Capturing business knowledge and capability enabling continuous improvement, innovation, and improved capability towards an Engineering Enterprise.

Technical Capabilities:

  • Creating and owning the design brief.
  • Design optimisation.
  • Design for Manufacture and Assembly.
  • Design compliance.

Requirements:

  • A first degree in Mechanical Engineering or other appropriate construction-related qualification plus design-related experience.

Salary: £60,000 - £80,000 per annum
