Main purpose of the role:
The Head of National Recruitment will be responsible for growing the company's national pool of engineers by developing and implementing a world-class recruitment strategy. This includes creating an industry-leading offer for engineers, overseeing the full recruitment process from talent attraction to onboarding, and ensuring compliance with company standards. The role involves managing one direct report and setting the strategic direction of the recruitment department, aligning recruitment efforts with business objectives to ensure the continuous supply of high-quality engineering talent.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Recruitment Leadership
- Develop and execute a national recruitment strategy to significantly expand the company's pool of engineers, ensuring alignment with business needs and market demands.
- Lead the creation of an industry-leading employment offer, optimising salary packages, benefits, and candidate experience to attract top-tier engineering talent.
- Work closely with senior leadership to continuously align recruitment strategies with company objectives, market trends, and future growth targets.
- Build and maintain a robust pipeline of engineers across the country through proactive recruitment methods, headhunting, and networking.
- Collaborate with training providers and industry bodies to secure the best emerging talent, while also attracting experienced professionals.
- Utilise social media, job boards, and industry platforms to generate content and actively engage with potential candidates.
- Oversee the full lifecycle of recruitment, from talent attraction, interviewing, and selection, to offer management, onboarding, and induction.
- Ensure all new hires undergo a smooth and effective onboarding process, working closely with HR to provide an exceptional candidate experience.
- Ensure performance reviews and audits are scheduled for new hires in collaboration with the technical team, promoting continuous performance improvement.
- Design and continuously improve an attractive offer for engineers that sets the company apart in the marketplace, including competitive compensation and benefits packages.
- Collaborate with business development and HR teams to ensure that offers are aligned with market trends, candidate expectations, and company financial goals.
- Directly manage one staff member, providing coaching, mentoring, and ensuring professional development to meet both personal and company goals.
- Ensure the recruitment team meets all KPI targets, fostering a results-driven environment.
- Provide guidance on workload prioritisation and process improvements to enhance recruitment efficiency.
- Work with the operations, technical, and business development teams to understand business needs, allowing for tailored recruitment efforts in key areas of expansion.
- Liaise with the Commercial Director to regularly review recruitment strategies and adjust as necessary to meet evolving company needs.
- Actively engage with external partners and industry bodies to boost the company's employer brand and attract top talent.
- Analyse and evaluate recruitment metrics and performance data to ensure continuous process improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements, including GDPR and Right to Work legislation, maintaining accurate and confidential candidate records.
- Produce regular reports on recruitment activities, outcomes, and strategic recommendations for leadership review.
- Continuously review and refine recruitment processes, tools, and techniques to drive operational efficiency and attract the best talent.
- Stay informed about industry trends, recruitment technologies, and competitor offerings to maintain a competitive edge in talent acquisition.
Qualification, Education and experience required:
Essential:
- Proven experience leading recruitment campaigns, with a focus on technical roles, ideally within fast-paced, high-demand sectors.
- Extensive knowledge of end-to-end recruitment processes, including sourcing, interviewing, onboarding, and managing candidate experience.
- Strong understanding of recruitment compliance, including Right to Work legislation and GDPR requirements.
- Demonstrated experience in utilising various recruitment channels, including social media, job boards, headhunting, and direct outreach methods.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
- IT literate, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and recruitment CRM systems.
Preferred:
- Recruitment experience within the electrical, engineering, or construction industries, with a strong understanding of the unique challenges and requirements of these sectors.
- Familiarity with industry-specific recruitment tools, networks, and talent pipelines.
- Experience working with technical teams to align recruitment efforts with operational needs in the electrical or construction sectors.
Desirable:
- Relevant qualifications in HR, Recruitment, or Business Management would be advantageous but not essential.
- Experience in crafting competitive employment offers and compensation packages tailored to engineering or technical roles.
