Role/ Department:

Capital Markets Legal Specialist, Capital Markets Legal.

The successful candidate will join our team of over 80 lawyers worldwide, with 29 lawyers located in EMEA. They will report into the EMEA Associate General Counsel, based in London.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Negotiating key FX and capital markets contracts, including onboarding documentation and product-specific agreements.
  • Assisting with other capital markets areas, such as broker engagements, securities lending documentation, and other ad hoc contracts.
  • Providing advice to the business and compliance teams on regulatory matters, including MiFID and EMIR obligations, transaction reporting, and cross-border licensing issues.
  • Managing legal risk and advising on legal and regulatory developments impacting Northern Trust's capital markets business in EMEA.

Key Skills:

  • 3-5 years of experience working in derivatives, particularly FX derivatives, and a strong knowledge of the regulatory framework for FX derivatives in the UK and Europe.
  • Knowledge of securities lending documentation and/or cash equities brokerage documentation is valued.
  • Excellent contract negotiation skills across a range of product types.
  • A self-starter who can work independently and prioritize tasks within a challenging environment.
  • Strong commercial and pragmatic sense, with an understanding of business needs.
