Key Responsibilities
  • Provide ecological expertise to support the maintenance and operation of our network.
  • Work alongside lineside and drainage maintenance teams to ensure that our activities do not harm the environment.
  • Supervise works as an ecological clerk of works to ensure that our projects are delivered in a way that minimizes harm to the environment.
  • Contribute to the implementation of our National Environment and Sustainability Strategy, focusing on biodiversity.
Requirements
  • 4 years of experience working in ecology, preferably with 2 years of experience in a project ecologist or ECoW role.
  • A relevant undergraduate degree in Ecology, Zoology, Biological Sciences, or other relevant Environmental Sciences.
  • A good understanding of UK and European wildlife legislation and experience in the application of best practice guidance.
  • Experience of standard ecological survey protocols and methodologies.
  • Ability to complete protected species surveys.
Desirable
  • A relevant Master's degree in Ecology or other relevant discipline.
  • Protected species survey licences, e.g. dormice, bats, great crested newts.
  • Knowledge of operational railway environment and PTS qualified.
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
  • Competent with Microsoft Office and GIS.
