Immunisation Specialist Nurse/Midwife
The Immunisation Specialist Nurse/Midwife will work as part of the Immunisation Service, providing evidence-based advice and support to improve vaccination uptake in pregnancy for Oxfordshire. The role involves working closely with Maternity services to deliver vaccines to eligible pregnant individuals throughout the Trust.
The focus of the role includes embedding behaviour change approaches to promote health and wellbeing among those accessing Maternity services, developing and promoting the service to healthcare professionals, service users, and their families.
This role requires safe and meticulous vaccine management, ensuring the safe delivery of specific immunisations. The immuniser must be able to travel to both the John Radcliffe Womens Centre Immunisation Hub and the Horton Maternity Unit Immunisation Hub, and work flexibly to meet service needs, including some weekend vaccination clinics.
The post holder will work to ensure equality for all service users when accessing immunisation services, supporting maternity colleagues to identify groups not accessing the vaccine in a safe and supportive environment. The role also involves using evidence-based information on the benefits of immunisation and making every contact count.
Key responsibilities include working jointly with maternity services in antenatal clinics and other settings, providing 1:1 conversations with pregnant individuals and new mothers to address questions and concerns regarding immunisation. The role also involves promoting and addressing health inequalities by targeting vulnerable groups, increasing uptake from varied communities and people from socio-economically deprived backgrounds.
The Immunisation Specialist Nurse/Midwife will deliver the RSV, Pertussis, Flu, and Covid vaccines, and any other vaccines as required by NHSE and the JVCI. The role also involves organising and developing approaches to promote health through the empowerment of women and their families by providing accessible information.
