About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Associate in Medical Statistics to join our team at The University of Manchester. As a key member of our data science community, you will be involved in a range of projects that leverage your expertise in prediction modelling, causal inference, and equity/fairness.

One of the projects you will be working on is 'Assessing and Predicting Risks of Valproate Withdrawal and Counterfactual Risks in People with Epilepsy'. This project aims to use observational data to emulate a 'target trial' and infer the causal effect of valproate withdrawal in young patients with epilepsy. You will also be working on 'Investigating Equity and Fairness in a Personalised Renal Function Monitoring Tool', which involves researching the fairness implications of a clinical prediction model used to monitor renal function in patients with heart failure.

About the Team

You will be part of a vibrant data science community at Manchester, comprising over 400 investigators working across various disciplines allied to data sciences. Our team is known for its close coupling between methodologists and translational scientists, which creates a virtuous circle of challenging real-world problems driving methodology research and exploiting new algorithms and methods.

The University of Manchester is a member of The Alan Turing Institute, the UK's national institute for data science, and our researchers lead a Turing research programme in health. This provides a unique opportunity to collaborate with leading experts in the field and contribute to cutting-edge research.

About the Benefits

We offer a competitive package, including a fantastic market-leading pension scheme, excellent employee health and wellbeing services, and exceptional starting annual leave entitlement. You will also have access to local and national discounts at major retailers and enjoy hybrid working arrangements.

The School is committed to promoting equality and diversity, including the Athena SWAN charter for gender equality in higher education. We particularly welcome applications from women for this post and are an equal opportunities employer.
