Job Description

Job Title: Principal Engineer - Shock and Dynamics

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Principal Engineer to join our Shock and Dynamics team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the structural integrity of our products and equipment meets naval shock requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement sub-system requirements to meet whole boat naval shock requirements
  • Manage verification and validation (V&V) evidence to ensure sub-systems meet shock requirements
  • Develop design justification documentation and undertake structural assessments of structures and equipment subjected to naval shock load cases
  • Provide design guidance at design reviews with respect to naval shock load cases and undertake peer review checking activities
  • Support the development of junior engineers and provide technical direction to engineers
  • Articulate and present technical arguments clearly, logically and simply
  • Represent the shock design function through all stages of the product life cycle
  • Provide specialist advice, active surveillance and representation at project design reviews to ensure compliance with shock and dynamics design requirements
  • Provide direct specialist support to the production teams in the assessment and resolution of production queries and issues

Requirements:

  • Detailed knowledge/understanding of assessments in support structures, structural seats/foundations, fasteners and welds using a mixture of finite element analysis, classical stress calculation techniques and application of standard code formulae
  • Ability to articulate and present technical arguments clearly, logically and simply
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
