Job Description


As a Graduate Scientist, you will be matched based on your background and interest and rotate 2 or 3 times to ensure great exposure to the work and projects happening within the department. You will be working on data-based projects through practical and theory-based learning in the field of informatics by developing data quality frameworks, ontologies, and data models to support data used in complex systems.


You will collaborate with a variety of teams, helping build and grow your network, and be expected to use logical thinking skills for designing and following a work plan, as well as developing technical documents and scientific publications. You will also have the opportunity to get involved with building data infrastructure for complex data application areas such as medical device readings, satellite imagery, or advanced manufacturing instrument readings.


Requirements


To be successful in this role, you will have achieved or be on target to achieve a degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a relevant data-driven physical science field. You should have capabilities in Data Engineering/Informatics skills such as programming, knowledge engineering, ontologies, and data modelling. A strong understanding of providing good customer service, delivering high-quality work, and proactive communication is essential.


Location


This role is based at our office on the University of Strathclyde campus, with occasional travel to our Teddington, Cambridge, and Huddersfield sites to collaborate and engage with colleagues within the Data Science department, the wider graduate cohort, and further NPL-based collaborators.
