Job Description

This role involves working under the direction of a class teacher or senior staff member to support pupils who require additional assistance. As a Pupil Support Assistant, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing individualized support to pupils in identified areas of learning and personal development.
  • Contributing to planning and review processes for individual pupils.
  • Supervising self-administration of medication and offering high-level personal care to enable pupils to function to their full potential.
  • Implementing support programs designed by visiting specialists, such as speech and language therapy.
  • Assisting with pupil mobility, including moving and handling training.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Experience of supporting young people with additional support needs.
  • Able to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within six months and complete Post Registration Training and Learning (PRTL) requirements.
  • A relevant qualification, such as two National 4s, or equivalent (SCQF Level 4 or above).
  • Good IT skills and ability to contribute to planning and review processes.
