About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Appeals Practitioner to join our Complex Care team at North Central London Integrated Care Board (NCL ICB). As part of our organisational change programme, we want to re-launch and re-energise the organisation, embed new ways of working and building the capabilities we need to create a thriving organisational culture.

As Senior Appeals Practitioner, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the CHC appeals and retrospective team, ensuring compliance with the National Framework for CHC and FNC as well as all relevant National legislation and local guidance. The post holder will have an in-depth knowledge of the National Framework and support others in its implementation, whilst ensuring a high-quality service is delivered in a timely manner.

Main Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the management of all processes and the clinical team related to CHC appeals and retrospective assessments.
  • Ensuring that the ICB meets its statutory duties in relation to CHC appeals and retrospective assessments in accordance with the current National Framework for Continuing Healthcare and NHS Funded Nursing Care.
  • Apply their specialist knowledge and skills to ensure the team meets the timeframes for the retrospective and appeals processes and ensure the pathways are clearly followed in line with the Policies.
  • Investigating complex cases, completing assessments and meetings as necessary.
  • Provide support and guidance to the appeals and retrospective team members to ensure quality assessments are completed, appropriate outcomes are reached, and best practice is achieved throughout the appeals and retrospective processes.
  • Ensure that accurate records are maintained for each case as well as panel decision and IRP recommendations.
  • Representing the ICB at NHSE Independent Review Panels as appropriate and/or provide support to other team members who are required to attend.
  • Identify learning from appeals, retrospectives, IRP's, and ombudsman's decisions. Develop, monitor and manage action plans to ensure learning and improve practice across NCL CHC services.
