Senior Ecologist / Ecology Director Job Opportunity

New career opportunity for a Senior Ecologist in Truro, Cornwall with a reputable and award-winning architecture and planning practice. The position offers flexibility for candidates to join either as a Senior Ecologist within the existing team or as a Director of a new business unit, with the opportunity to shape the direction of the business and potentially receive equity.

Established over three decades ago, the practice has built a solid client base across the South West and across the UK. Offering a range of services across architecture and planning, they now have an area of growth within their ecology offerings. This is a unique opportunity to assist in the development of the business offerings in this area, either in-house or as a separate business. The ideal candidate will need to have a proven background in land ecology, habitat surveys, BNG/BNG Credits, and use of ecological tools.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Carry out and manage ecological and BNG assessments
  2. Site and client visits across the region
  3. Report writing and assistance with planning submissions
  4. Coordination of freelancers/consultants when required
  5. Support/lead the growth of the department as the business expands.
Required Skills & Experience:
  1. Proven background in land ecology
  2. Bat habitat surveys, additional experience in newt, badger, and dormice surveys also desirable
  3. Bat habitat licence, strongly preferred
  4. Experience with bio-diversity net gain, including impact assessments and ideally BNG credits
  5. Chartered Ecologist status is highly desirable
  6. Business development and client relations experience also desirable.
