We are seeking a highly skilled Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our Children\u0027s Speech & Language Therapy (SALT) team in an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist in Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC).
The successful candidate will have a specialist interest and extensive experience of working with children and young people who use AAC. They will maintain a clinical pathway, ensuring high quality, evidence-based practice across the service and work collaboratively with partners to meet the needs of children with AAC across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland (LLR).
The postholder will need specialist skills to provide training and coaching to the wider workforce to support children and young people who use AAC. Additionally, the role assures the leadership team of the quality and safety of practice in FYPCLDA service transformation and governance, and in wider system partnerships such as regional teams and local authorities.
The successful candidate will work closely with other clinical specialists, the service Clinical Lead and members of the SALT team, to meet the diverse health needs of the population. You will be line managed by the SALT Family Service Manager.
Access to a car and a current UK driving license is essential.
Job Description Summary (Main duties and responsibilities)
The successful candidate will have specialist knowledge and experience in AAC, and act as the AAC expert for the speech and language therapy team, and children and young people. Holding a specialist AAC caseload and support other members of the team with caseload management. Being responsible for expert clinical supervision across the speech and language therapy team for AAC.
The post holder will offer effective and impactful clinical leadership of the AAC within the speech and language therapy team within Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland. High level communication skills and negotiation are necessary for delivering highly complex clinical information to support both patients and staff.
You will participate and lead in the development of quality improvements for service delivery, creating and maintaining evidence-based, high quality AAC pathway. This will include paper-based and powered AAC. Contributing to service level conversations and provide clinical specialist insight into service development, as appropriate. Manage complaints related to quality and clinical practice across the speech and language therapy team. Deputise for clinical lead as appropriate.
