Disability Services Counsellor Position

Role Summary
Vancouver Community College (VCC) is seeking a Disability Services Counsellor to join our team. As a Disability Services Counsellor, you will collaborate with the College community to promote an accessible, equitable, and supportive learning environment for students with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate reasonable accommodations and support services for students with disabilities in accordance with VCC Policy and BC Human Rights legislation.
- Review and interpret complex medical and psychoeducational documentation to determine eligibility for services.
- Develop and implement accommodation plans, coordinate their implementation, and provide ongoing support to students.
- Provide counselling services tailored to students' abilities and goals, including career exploration, education planning, study strategies, and time management.
- Collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to resolve disability-related issues that may impact academic success.
- Liaise with faculty, staff, and the VCC Student Union on issues relevant to accessibility and student success.
- Develop and facilitate group sessions, including orientations, psychoeducational workshops, and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain case files and confidential student records in accordance with College policy and privacy laws.
Requirements
- A Master's degree in Counselling Psychology or equivalent, supplemented by recent professional counselling experience.
- A minimum of three years recent counselling experience in a comprehensive community college is preferred.
- Good knowledge of community services and funding agencies relevant to working with people with disabilities and good knowledge of the public post-secondary system.
- Must be professionally prepared to undertake the counselling of any student.
- Must be a specialist in disability issues, skilled and professionally prepared to undertake counselling and assistance of students with disabilities.
