About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Software Tax Specialist to join our growing tax team at RSM UK. As a key member of our Innovation Reliefs team, you will play a crucial role in helping our clients claim R&D incentives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage R&D engagements, including financial management, staffing, risk procedures, deliverables, and client relationships.
  • Develop claim methodologies and manage the preparation of R&D tax relief claims for submission to HMRC.
  • Coordinate and lead interviews with clients' technical and finance teams to advise on R&D tax relief and assist with identification of qualifying R&D activities and expenditure.
  • Write technical descriptions of clients' projects to include in reports to be sent to HMRC, and edit client-drafted technical descriptions, highlighting areas for improvement and suggested changes.
  • Prepare robust costing and technological documentation to support R&D claims based on the UK BIS guidelines and CIRD manual.
  • Build an internal network within the wider firm and an external network with intermediary companies.
  • Identify, lead on, and progress business development opportunities, pitching for work with both new and existing clients.
  • Prepare documentation and liaise with HMRC in response to enquiries into R&D Tax claims.
  • Act as a point of contact on specific R&D projects for any queries from the business.
  • Ensure tax quality at all times by adhering to the firm's quality standards.
About You

We are looking for a Computer Science Specialist with a strong understanding of software development and a good level of tax technical knowledge of the UK's R&D tax incentives. You should have experience in preparing and submitting R&D tax relief claims in the sector, as well as a clear and concise writing style.

The ideal candidate will have a Computer Science degree or post-graduate qualification and prior experience working in the software/IT industry. You will be a strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
