As a Cloud Cost Optimization Specialist, you'll have a dynamic role with responsibility for defining, implementing, and evolving our FinOps function. You will ensure the cost-effectiveness of our cloud operating model by managing cloud service consumption, coordinating initiatives for cloud cost management and optimization, and ensuring efficiency, transparency, and accountability in our cloud environment.

You will work to embed FinOps best practices in cloud governance forums (Management, Architecture and Strategy) and the deployment of cloud services by educating teams and fostering a culture of cost-consciousness.
  1. Contribute to FinOps strategy and governance processes to achieve process efficiencies while minimizing commercial risk and exposure.
  2. Act as a trusted advisor for FinOps, ensuring that cloud services and resources are optimized to maximize the value of our investment in cloud technologies.
  3. Conduct regular audits across the cloud platform to ensure compliance with key FinOps processes (optimization, tagging etc).
  4. Apply knowledge of cloud contracting, commitment, and economics to negotiate cloud contracts with Procurement and In-House Legal teams, improving our position.
  5. Monitor cloud usage, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with financial policies and cloud best practice through regular cloud account administration.
  6. Identify opportunities to leverage reserved instances, savings plans, and other cost-saving mechanisms.
  7. Reconcile cloud provider invoicing to ensure accurate billing and financial reporting.
  8. Collaborate with Finance and IT teams to establish cloud budgets and develop accurate forecasts based on usage patterns.
  9. Optimize cloud costs by reducing costs, optimizing usage, and negotiating contracts without compromising operational performance.
  10. Work closely with engineering and development teams to align infrastructure to our cloud cost goals.
  11. Develop and enforce FinOps policies and best practices to ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal policies.
  12. Provide effective financial reporting and conduct detailed data analysis to offer insights into cloud usage, costs, and performance for Executives, Senior Management, Product Owners, and Cloud Engineers.
Requirements

This role requires:
  1. Prior experience in a dedicated FinOps role, preferably within the professional services sector.
  2. Proven experience of managing cloud cost consumption for one of the big three public cloud providers (Microsoft, AWS, GCP).
  3. Proven experience of delivering FinOps projects and initiatives.
  4. Good understanding of cloud cost management, optimization techniques, and billing for cloud platforms.
  5. Knowledge of cloud contracting, commitment, licensing models, and cloud strategies.
  6. Proven experience of financial modeling and data analysis principles, collating information from various sources.
  7. Experience with cloud cost management tools.
  8. Highly motivated, self-starter who undertakes activities to the highest professional standards.
  9. Excellent communication and presentation skills, both orally and written.
  10. Ability to manage conflicting priorities, working across functions or projects as required.
  11. High level of personal credibility, impact, and influence, with a proven ability to work effectively and persuasively at all levels of the business.
