Chief DevOps Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal DevOps Engineer to join our team at Johnson Controls, Inc. in Belfast. As a key member of our DevOps team, you will be responsible for deploying complex systems to the cloud and ensuring the smooth operation of our cloud-based infrastructure.
As a Principal DevOps Engineer, you will work closely with our architects, product managers, and software engineers to design and implement scalable and secure cloud-based solutions. You will be responsible for creating and maintaining infrastructure-as-code, automating builds and deployments, and ensuring the security and integrity of our cloud-based systems.
Key Responsibilities- Design and implement scalable and secure cloud-based solutions using Azure resources such as VNets, VMs, AKS, and Azure Container Registry.
- Create and maintain infrastructure-as-code using tools such as Terraform or Azure Resource Manager.
- Automate builds and deployments using tools such as Jenkins or Azure DevOps.
- Ensure the security and integrity of our cloud-based systems by enforcing cyber security best practices and monitoring system performance.
- Collaborate with architects and product owners to develop and understand requirements and deployment scenarios.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the broader software field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience with Azure resources such as VNets, VMs, AKS, and Azure Container Registry.
- Minimum 3 years of experience automating builds and deployments of complex systems.
- Minimum 2 years of experience using and managing Git repos in GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, or Azure DevOps.
- Minimum 2 years of experience building and deploying services to Kubernetes clusters.
- Minimum 2 years of experience managing Linux-based systems.
- Minimum 1 year of experience managing Windows-based systems.
- Broad knowledge of multiple scripting languages such as Bash, PowerShell, Python, JavaScript, etc.
- Solid understanding of computer networks including CIDR notation, private subnets, switches, routers, gateways, VPNs, DNS, TCP/UDP, multicast, TLS, PKI certificates, firewalls, load balancers, proxy servers, reverse proxies, API gateways, Virtual IPs, NAT, and IPv6.
We are looking for candidates with experience building and/or using Kubernetes Operators, experience with multiple container and artifact registries, and certification in Kubernetes, computer networking, security, and/or any cloud platform.
