Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Makaton Support Worker to join our team at a specialist centre in Camden. This is a full-time position involving 5 days a week work, with the potential to become a permanent role for the right candidate.

The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff to adapt and deliver activities, promoting independence, confidence, and social skills both inside and outside the classroom. They will provide tailored support using Makaton, assistive technology, and learning resources to facilitate access to learning and development sessions throughout the college day.

A key aspect of this role is supporting a student who predominantly uses Makaton to communicate. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate has mandatory proficiency in Makaton. Five days of training provided by the Local Authority prior to starting this position will ensure the successful candidate is well-equipped to meet the needs of the student.

Responsibilities
  • Provide tailored support using Makaton, assistive technology, and learning resources
  • Work closely with teaching staff to adapt and deliver activities
  • Promote independence, confidence, and social skills
  • Support a student who predominantly uses Makaton to communicate

This role offers a competitive salary of £25,000 - £30,000 per annum, depending on experience. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, we offer a supportive working environment and opportunities for professional development.

About the Centre

Our specialist centre provides education and care support to around 50 young people aged 16 to 25 with profound and multiple or severe learning difficulties, complex autism, and/or physical difficulties. We have an experienced management team and excellent training programs in place. Our centre operates during term-time only and is easily accessible via public transport.
