Job Title: Assistant File Handler

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant File Handler to join our team at Keoghs LLP. As an Assistant File Handler, you will play a crucial role in supporting our Lead File Handlers in handling mesothelioma and asbestos-related claims.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Document Review and Reporting: Review documents and prepare reports to assist Lead File Handlers in progressing claims.
  • Disclosure and Evidence Review: Deal with disclosure and review evidence, including medical and personnel records, to ensure accurate and comprehensive claims handling.
  • Investigations and Witness Statements: Conduct investigations with insured parties and obtain witness statements to support claims.
  • Counsel and Expert Instructing: Instruct Counsel and Experts to provide expert advice and support in claims handling.
  • Research and Drafting: Conduct research and draft reports, letters, and other documents to support claims handling.
  • Court Attendance and Correspondence: Attend conferences and trials with Counsel and deal with routine correspondence to ensure effective claims handling.
  • Client Communication: Provide initial reports and further reports/advice to clients, when requested, to ensure excellent client communication.
  • Team Collaboration: Liaise directly with Claims Handlers and Managers to ensure seamless team collaboration and effective claims handling.
  • Compliance and Values: Comply with SRA Standards and Regulations and adhere to Keoghs Values to ensure a culture of excellence and integrity.
Requirements:
  • Technical Proficiency: Be technically proficient in handling and/or assisting on disease-litigated cases, including mesothelioma, asbestos, and NIHL.
  • Negotiation and Communication Skills: Possess effective negotiation and communication skills to work with clients, Counsel, and other stakeholders.
  • Initiative and Flexibility: Demonstrate ability to use own initiative and flexibility in relation to tasks undertaken.
  • Attention to Detail: Maintain concentration and pay attention to detail to ensure accurate and comprehensive claims handling.
  • Self-Organisation and Prioritisation: Ability to self-organise and self-prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and targets.
  • Pressure and Target Management: Work under pressure and to target to ensure effective claims handling.
  • IT Skills: Possess good level of IT skills to work efficiently and effectively.
