Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist advice, guidance, and direct support across various departments within our acute hospital site.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Nurse for Learning Disability and Autism to maintain effective links with community-based services.
  • Develop and deliver training to enhance the competence and confidence of HHFT staff in providing excellent care to individuals with Learning Disabilities and Autism.
  • Build and support a network of advisors/champions to promote awareness and best practices within the Trust.

This role is vital for someone passionate about improving healthcare outcomes for people with Learning Disabilities and Autism.

Main Duties of the Job

Under the supervision of the Lead Nurse for Learning Disability and Autism, the successful candidate will ensure that adults with Learning Disabilities and/or Autism receive appropriate care when they access Hospital services, providing specialist advice and direct support to staff.

They will help set up and improve processes for patient care, collaborate with community services, and build staff competence through training.

Education/Qualification

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (Learning Disability, Mental Health, Adult Nursing), or Allied Health Professional HCPC registered
  • Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in a specialist area.
  • Evidence of continued professional development

Experience

Essential

  • Post registration experience of working with people with a learning disability and/or autistic people
  • Experience dealing with behaviour that challenges
  • Experience of organising and delivering training to multi-disciplinary teams.

Desirable

  • Evidence of implementing change and management of change
  • Experience of collecting and analysing quantitative data and qualitative information.
  • Experience of working in acute and community healthcare settings.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Evidence of knowledge of issues and challenges faced by adults with a Learning Disability and/or Autistic adults and their families.
  • Evidence of knowledge and awareness of legislation and policy relating to people with a Learning Disability and/or Autistic people.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding adults national and Pan-London policy and procedures.
  • Evidence of knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act Knowledge/understanding of confidentiality issues

Desirable

  • Awareness of networks and agencies working with people with a Learning Disability /or Autistic people in the local area

Skills/Ability

Essential

  • Ability to manage own time and workload efficiently, to prioritise tasks effectively and work on own initiative without close supervision.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word IT programmes (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
