Disability Advocate

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Disability Advocate to join our team at GET STAFFED ONLINE RECRUITMENT LIMITED.

This rewarding role involves working as an advocate, supporting people to speak up and have their wishes, feelings, beliefs, needs and values considered.

The successful candidate will travel to locations such as hospitals and care homes around Sutton/Croydon/Surrey, engaging with people from all walks of life and ensuring that the client's voice is heard.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting clients to understand information and ensure their wishes are considered
  • Checking and challenging Local Authorities and/or professionals to ensure they are acting in the best interest of the client
  • Promoting empowerment and safeguarding concerns
  • Working in accordance with relevant legislation such as Mental Capacity Act, Mental Health Act, Care Act, DoLS and Human Rights Act
  • Monitoring and reporting - following a checklist, you will write and submit detailed reports to the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) team

Requirements:

  • IAQ qualified or willing to study for and obtain within 12 months of commencing employment
  • Previous experience of working as an advocate/working with a diverse range of vulnerable people
  • Kindness, compassion, good communication skills and the ability to connect with others
  • Ability to communicate clearly in writing, verbally and nonverbally, using a range of communication tools and methods
  • IT skills – a working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, databases and other relevant technology
  • Strong organisational skills
  • A valid driver's license and car as this role involves travel to clients
