Job Summary

Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a skilled Veterinary Technician to join our team in the Intermediate Care (IMC), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and Emergency Room (ER) section of our Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital.

The ideal candidate will work directly with the IMC clinicians and rotating intern doctors to facilitate quality care and patient flow through the IMC, ICU, and ER.

This is a monthly rotating swing shift position, requiring the ability to work a variety of schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with administering treatments and monitoring patients admitted in IMC or ICU, observing and recording vital data, abnormal signs, body weight, food/water intake of animals, and collecting and labeling specimens.
  • Perform and demonstrate veterinary care techniques and procedures related to emergency and critical care medicine.
  • Assist veterinarians in the care of patients requiring advanced procedures and life-saving techniques, including CPR, mechanical ventilation, and dialysis.
  • Inspect facilities, equipment, and supplies daily, and observe health status of animals, environmental conditions, temperature, and sanitation.
  • Perform job duties with speed and accuracy, working as essential personnel to provide care for patients after hours, on weekends, and holidays.
  • Assist with emergency triage and stabilization of patients presenting through the Emergency service.
  • May be responsible for, or assist in, billing clients, inputting charges, and/or similar tasks.
Requirements

Depending on a combination of education and experience, the finalist selected for this position will be hired as a Veterinary Technician – Inpatient and assigned levels I, II, or III.

Level I: Requires an Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain certification.

Level II: Requires an Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain certification plus 2 years of experience working in a veterinary hospital environment.

Level III: Requires an Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain certification plus 4 years of experience working in a veterinary hospital environment.

Substitutions allowed for Education: Indicated education is required; no substitutions allowed.

Substitutions allowed for Experience: When a candidate has the required education but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
