Effluent Treatment and Plant Operations Engineer Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Effluent Treatment and Plant Operations Engineer to join our client's team in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining the effluent treatment plant systems, ensuring optimal plant operation and adherence to health and safety standards.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned professional to take ownership of plant maintenance and operations in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in a similar engineering role, with strong mechanical and electrical knowledge.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Effluent Treatment Plant Operations:
  • Operate and maintain effluent treatment plant systems, including pumps, heat exchangers, centrifuges, and related equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, monitor performance, and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal plant operation.
  • Monitor and maintain pH control systems, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
General Plant Maintenance and Repairs:
  • Conduct daily repair and maintenance across all areas of the plant, including hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, and gas heating equipment.
  • Provide cover for other engineers during breakdowns or staff absences, ensuring seamless plant operation.
  • Install new machinery and systems as needed, collaborating with the Works Engineer for technical support.
Workshop Duties:
  • Operate workshop machinery, including lathes, milling machines, drill presses, saws, and welding equipment.
  • Maintain workshop equipment, ensuring safe operation and minimizing downtime.
Health & Safety Compliance:
  • Adhere to all health and safety protocols, using personal protective equipment, working at heights, and managing hot work permits.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO14001 Environmental Management System, focusing on waste reduction, chemical management, and energy efficiency.
Environmental Management and Waste Control:
  • Implement environmental procedures to minimize odour escapes, keep lids closed, and maintain fire doors in good condition.
  • Assist in reducing waste by recycling processes and maintaining operational standards.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Carry out maintenance during mill shut-down weeks, maximizing downtime for essential repairs and upgrades.
  • Cover for absent colleagues and provide general support across the plant as required.
  • Maintain accurate records for all plant maintenance, repairs, and environmental monitoring.

Key Requirements

  1. Relevant qualifications and certifications in mechanical and electrical engineering.
  2. Strong understanding of plant systems, including pumps, heat exchangers, centrifuges, and general maintenance techniques.
  3. Proficient in workshop machinery and welding techniques.
  4. Ability to diagnose faults and perform repairs on complex machinery.
  5. Basic knowledge of electrical systems and safe working practices.
  6. Experience with health and safety regulations, including knowledge of hot work permits, lifting and carrying, and PPE.
  7. Awareness of ISO14001 Environmental Management Systems and environmental procedures.
  8. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and organizational skills.
