About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our team as a Lead Clinician. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing communication and dysphagia pathways, providing clinical supervision, and ensuring high standards of care in accordance with the HCPC Code of Conduct and Trust Policies and Procedures.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and promote a safe and effective dysphagia service that provides assessment, advice, and intervention to stabilise and/or reduce associated clinical risks on oral intake.
  • Develop and promote a communication pathway that provides assessment, advice, and intervention to promote choice making, joint decision making, shared risk management, and joint care planning.
  • Provide recommendations for all staff working with individuals with speech, language, and communication needs.
  • Support the service to make reasonable adjustments for individuals with speech, language, and communication needs who require treatment for a mental health condition.
  • Develop systems to respond to communication and dysphagia referrals in a timely and safe manner.
  • Provide specialist advice to Speech & Language Therapy staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team and wider Trust through case discussion, formal consultation, clinical supervision, and education.

Person Specification

  • Relevant post-qualification clinical experience working with people who have mental health needs.
  • Experience of leading clinical practice, service development, or project work.
  • Highly specialist knowledge of relevant assessment and treatment models for people with mental health needs.
  • Experience of providing clinical supervision to others.
  • Speech and Language Therapy professional qualification and further training and experience to masters level or equivalent.
  • A qualification in the assessment and management of dysphagia.
