About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Second Chef to join our team at Barchester Healthcare. As a Second Chef, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, person-centered hospitality in our care homes. You will assist the Head Chef in creating nutritious, flavorsome, and well-balanced menus, while collaborating with residents to tailor the menus to their preferences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Head Chef in menu development and kitchen management
  • Work with fresh produce to deliver high-quality and wholesome dishes cooked at the highest standards
  • Manage the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence and lead and motivate a team
  • Complete regular audits and manage stock control
  • Work within budget and maintain a warm and efficient environment

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • City & Guilds/NVQ/SVQ or equivalent qualifications
  • A good understanding of nutrition and experience in working with fresh, seasonal food
  • A personable and warm approach, with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of residents
  • The ability to lead and inspire a team, and a good understanding of HACCP
