Safeguarding Midwife

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safeguarding Midwife to join our team at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. As a key member of our senior midwifery leadership team, you will provide specialist knowledge, advice, and clinical expertise to all staff in maternity services, ensuring the highest standards of safeguarding for our patients.
Main Responsibilities:- Manage and participate in triaging safeguarding referrals and emails, ensuring timely and effective responses.
- Work collaboratively with clinical staff to ensure appropriate supervision and visiting arrangements are in place for parents with restricted access to their baby.
- Represent the Trust at external meetings, sharing plans of care and communications with the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Update, review, and implement Trust policies, procedures, and protocols in conjunction with other key safeguarding staff, ensuring they reflect evidence-based changes in practice and legislation.
- Contribute to the Safeguarding Children annual report, meeting regularly with the Head of Safeguarding Children and Head of Midwifery to report on safeguarding in maternity and identify areas for improvement.
- Contribute to internal child death reviews, reviewing all circumstances surrounding the incident and contributing to recommendations for policy and practice changes.

Requirements:- Registered Midwife with a master's degree in a relevant subject or willingness to undertake/working towards.
- Supervision training.
- Knowledge of current safeguarding legislation, guidance, and procedures.
- Understanding of resource management, health and safety, clinical risk, and quality issues.
- Awareness of equality and diversity.
- Awareness of self-care strategies for self and others.
- Extensive experience of working with safeguarding/child protection issues.
- Experience of working with pregnant women with complex medical/social needs.
