Actuarial Data Analyst

We're looking for an Actuarial Data Analyst to assist in the identification and creation of cutting-edge data assets and predictive models that feed into Hastings' market-leading pricing activities.

Our Actuarial Data Analysts apply innovative predictive modelling techniques to solve real-world business challenges, working closely with and learning from recognised experts in designing and implementing market-leading insurance solutions across multiple product lines.

This role is within a combined team of Actuaries and Data Scientists championing the adoption of the latest machine learning (ML) techniques to leverage powerful insights from vast amounts of customer information.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain analytical tools to support the management of our risk portfolio.
  • Develop best-in-class models to predict claims outcomes, fraud, and other risk KPIs.
  • Engineer powerful new rating factors to be deployed into our rating algorithms.
  • Identify, analyse, and monetise new data sources.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in mathematics/statistics or a similarly numerical subject.
  • Undertaking actuarial exams, with the ambition to qualify as a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) or equivalent professional body recognised by the IFoA's mutual recognition agreement.
  • 1-3 years' experience building predictive models in an insurance environment.
  • Keen interest in emerging ML techniques and their commercial value.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience using Python or R.
