We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our team as an Industrial Placement student in 3D printing. As an AM4Space team member, you will work alongside world-leading engineers, scientists, and technicians in a highly collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities- Redesign astronomical components using computer-aided design (CAD) and additive manufacturing (AM) specific design software.
- Collaborate with the Engineering Support Group to ensure the design can be both printed and machined.
- Evaluate the performance of the AM component and compare it to the original conventional design.
- Coordinate the manufacture of the redesigned component.
- Develop a project report intended for an external audience.
- Currently enrolled on an undergraduate degree course and returning to university/studies to complete your undergraduate degree following the placement.
- Required or have requested to take an industrial placement year.
- Have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement.
- Able to commence employment in summer 2025.
- Enrolled on a Mechanical Engineering degree (or similar).
- An understanding of engineering drawings and 3D modelling, coupled with a desire to learn 3D computer-aided design software.
- An enthusiasm for additive manufacturing linked with an interest in astronomy or space science.
- Knowledge of best practice design and/or analysis techniques.
- Knowledge of 3D printing, either in design and/or via hands-on printing.
- Knowledge of finite element analysis and its use relating to mechanical design.
