We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Project Engineer to join our Environment Business. As a key member of our Operations Management Team, you will be responsible for leading design-related activities and working closely with our Pre-Construction team and Operations Manager to deliver projects under the Midlands & West frameworks across Severn Trent and Welsh Water.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement design delivery strategies for each project, working closely with the Senior Design Manager and Pre-Construction lead.
- Coordinate all design work, ensuring that design deliverables are provided in line with the requirements for each project, aligned with the agreed investment stage and programme, meeting the agreed budget to a sufficient standard, quality, and level of detail required.
- Work closely with the assigned Operations Manager, their project management teams, and In-House and external Engineering teams to ensure successful project delivery.
- Be client-facing, ensuring completed designs align with the Client's requirements and successfully move through the client's design approval process in line with the programme requirements.
- Develop strong working relationships with internal teams and external customers, along with subconsultants.
- Apply CDM () and principle of prevention and safety in design as Principal Designer.
- Coordinate the design work by others on multi-disciplinary projects.
- Implement Galliford Try's policies and procedures.
- Ensure the design scope of works is understood.
- Lead design meetings and ensure minutes are produced and distributed in a timely manner.
- Ensure delivery of design documentation in line with design and submissions programme.
- Deal with enquiries from designers/supply chain/sub-contractors.
- Implement best practice including BIM/Digital, DfMA & Standardisation, Carbon Reduction and Supply Chain Engagement.
- Support the commercial relationships with customers, consultants, contractors, and subcontractors during the tender and delivery processes.
- Ensure adherence to relevant Standards and Specifications, identifying deviations from standards and innovations throughout the project lifecycle.
- Work in conjunction with the preconstruction and delivery teams to promote integrated project delivery.
- Assist the Project Team by producing design scope, assisting with commercial and contractual engagement, producing the Design Management Plan (DMP), and implementing the BIM execution plan.
- Propose options for design solutions, conduct value engineering, support buildability reviews, support the development of integrated project programmes, and be accountable for producing technical specifications in support of the procurement function.
- Assess and develop the subcontract and supply chain design, and assess (and manage) design risks and opportunities.
- Assist the Project Manager to report on design performance in the project(s) (Cost and Schedule), manage design resource forecasting and outlook, and manage and report design change control.
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Lead Project Engineer who possesses the following competencies:
- Good understanding of design and construction programmes.
- Good problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Strong organisational skills.
- Good communicator – able to engage confidently with all stakeholders.
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility around tasks.
- Experience in D and D environment (desirable).
- Good knowledge of CDM ()
- Able to demonstrate alignment and work in line with the Galliford Try Values, ie Excellence, Passion, Integrity, and Collaboration.
- Aware of individual Health and Safety responsibilities and adheres to company health and safety policy and procedures.
- Ability to work to deadlines.
- Good time management with ability to multitask.
- Degree in Engineering, Design, Architecture, or Construction Management.
- Experience within Construction Management and/or Architecture/Civil Engineering (highways, rail, water, or aviation).
- Membership of relevant Professional Body is desirable.
- Fully conversant with the Microsoft suite of packages.
- Working D & D CAD would be beneficial.
- Working knowledge of BIM and Common Data Environments preferred.
