Electrical Technician Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Electrical Technician to join our team at Brockenhurst College. As an Electrical Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of courses to students, maintaining electrical workshop areas, and ensuring the safe and functional state of equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support lecturing staff in the delivery of courses, advising students on techniques and demonstrating safe use of tools and equipment.
  • Prepare, set up, clear away, and store apparatus, build test rigs, prepare workshops, and materials for lessons, demonstrations, etc.
  • Maintain electrical workshop areas and ensure they are in a safe and functional state.
  • Work collaboratively with lecturers to complete risk assessments for the electrical workshop.
  • Issue materials, tools, and equipment in a safe condition to students and staff.
  • Assist staff and students in the use of apparatus and equipment.
  • Occasionally demonstrate machines to members of staff and students, applying acquired skills.
  • Observe and emphasize safe working procedures and practices during assistance and demonstration.
  • Perform simple maintenance, fault finding, repair, and servicing of equipment, and arrange repair via the Senior Technician when necessary.
  • Assist in the development of new equipment, workshops under the direction of the Senior Technician.
  • Check stocks of materials and place orders with the Senior Technician for replacement and new items.
  • Complete PAT testing for the Marchwood Skills Centre.
  • Complete risk assessments/SOPS as required by the Head of Curriculum/Senior Technician.
  • Assist lecturing staff in preparation of teaching resources.
  • Assist lecturing staff in the maintenance of a register for COSHH.
  • Assist lecturers with storage and issue of books and materials.
Requirements:
  • Educated to at least GCSE Level.
  • Electrical Installations Level 2.
  • Experience in workshop practices.
  • Experienced Electrician.
  • Ability to set up and monitor administrative systems and stock control.
  • Full working knowledge of Health and Safety.
  • Ability to work at a practical level.
  • Computer literate - Microsoft Office suite of software.
  • Ability to work in a number of teams.
  • Able to relate well to students with special educational needs.
  • Ability to cope with rapidly changing circumstances.
