We are working closely with a Local Authority in London to assist with the appointment of an Environmental Health Officer, on a 3-month contract, which may be extended at the client's discretion.

Rate of Pay: £24.14 - £31.54 per hour

Job Summary:

As an Environmental Health Specialist, you will be responsible for managing and organising the effective provision of specialist environmental health technical skills and knowledge to maintain and safeguard standards relating to people's health and well-being.

You will contribute to the delivery of the council's objectives and priorities, working collaboratively with colleagues, partners and other stakeholders to help build a sustainable and highly effective organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and enforce environmental health policies, using specialist technical skills and knowledge to maintain and safeguard standards relating to people's health and well-being.
  • Carry out routine or unplanned visits and inspections to ensure compliance with legislation, taking action to improve conditions and providing advice and assistance to householders and businesses.
  • Investigate complaints from the general public and provide advice and assistance to householders and businesses.
  • Give talks at public enquiries, meetings and exhibitions, ensuring compliance through education, advice and enforcement.
  • Take enforcement action, initiating legal proceedings and preparing and giving evidence in court.

Requirements:

  • Degree/Diploma in environmental health or a relevant qualification.
  • Completion of practical training.
  • Work experience in environmental health or a related field of work.
  • Further qualification in environmental health disciplines.
  • 2 A levels and 5 GCSEs (including Maths and English).

Please note that you should be available to work immediately or at short notice and have the right to work in the UK. This role requires a basic DBS.
