About the Role

The Hillingdon Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Locum Consultant Anaesthetist to join our busy anaesthetic department. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality anaesthetic care to patients, working closely with our multidisciplinary team to ensure excellent patient outcomes.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in general anaesthesia, with experience in emergency, obstetric, and trauma anaesthesia. They will also possess excellent teaching and leadership skills, with the ability to develop effective working relationships with all levels of staff.

The Trust offers a wide range of services, including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics, and maternity services. Key Responsibilities
  • Providing high-quality anaesthetic care to patients
  • Working closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure excellent patient outcomes
  • Developing and implementing effective working relationships with all levels of staff
  • Participating in clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives
  • Contributing to the development of the anaesthetic department's clinical and educational programs
Person Specification
  • Valid registration with the General Medical Council
  • MBBS or Equivalent
  • FRCA or Equivalent Listed on the Specialist Register, or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview
  • Previous UK experience at senior registrar level or above
  • Experience as Specialist Trainee in a wide range of general anaesthesia including emergency, obstetric, and trauma anaesthesia
  • Teaching Skills - at different levels and with different professions
  • Evidence of attendance at national and international meetings in relevant sub-specialty areas
  • Evidence of clinical audit/QIP within a department/Trust
  • Understanding of evidence-based medicine, able to appraise research and ability to convert research evidence into clinical practice, with an understanding of the principles of audit
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships on an individual and multi-disciplinary basis with all levels of staff
  • Caring, honest, and reliable
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills
  • Ability to work in and lead a Team
  • Prepared to live or stay within 30 minutes driving time from the hospital when on-call
  • Ability to travel between sites
  • Pre-employment health screening to ensure fitness appropriate to the demands of the job
  • Formal teaching qualification
  • Advanced training in general anaesthesia and major surgery including robotic surgery
  • Interest in Acute Pain
  • Higher training in paediatric anaesthesia
  • Advanced training in obstetric anaesthesia
  • Formal recent attendance at clinical and educational supervisor training courses
  • Evidence of leading formal teaching programme or being an examiner
  • Managerial Training
  • Simulation teaching and training and qualification e.g. STELI
  • Evidence of presentations at recognised national and/or international meetings
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Strong motivation to maintain, improve, and adjust service provision to meet quality standards and changing needs
