Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Renewable Energy Specialist to join our team in the Newquay and St Austell area. As a key member of our operations and maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance and safety of our utility-scale ground-mounted solar PV plants.

About the Role

This is a permanent position requiring a fully qualified electrician with experience in operating and maintaining MW-scale power plants. You will be working on-site, performing planned inspections and maintenance according to legal, technical, and contractual requirements. Your role will also involve troubleshooting and fault-finding, as well as collaborating with our team to ensure exceptional levels of safety, quality, and performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to and manage health and safety requirements at all times, promoting a culture of safety within our team.
  • Achieve and maintain Authorised Person status, commensurate with training received and individual job role requirements.
  • Undertake planned inspection and maintenance, including testing and commissioning of plant and equipment.
  • Perform AC and DC system testing, troubleshooting, and fault-finding.
  • Carry out reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and resolution in a timely manner.
  • Troubleshoot and repair sensors and communication equipment, including RS485, Ethernet, and fibre optic networks.
  • Configure computer-based devices and components, including firmware updates.
  • Occasionally assist with ground maintenance, cleaning, or mechanical work.
  • Induct and manage sub-contractors, ensuring their safe working practices and undertaking quality checks on their work.
  • Keep accurate maintenance records and compile reports.
  • Maintain close communication with the O&M office and team functions.
Requirements
  • Fully qualified electrician with experience in operating and maintaining MW-scale power plants.
  • DC and HV electrical competencies.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of solar PV technology.
  • Strong technical understanding of AC, DC, SCADA, instrumentation, and communications networks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, fluent written and spoken English.

Estimated Salary Range
